Music and Me
Hi! My name is Ashley Grogan and I am from Irmo, South Carolina. If you're familiar with Columbia, South Carolina it's a town right outside of it. I am currently a psychology major and a minor in pre-law. I play lacrosse here at Converse and I before Converse I played the violin through elementary all the way through high school.
1. An example of what I like right now:
Something that is my current go to is a band called Blink-182. This summer I got to see them live in Greenville, South Carolina. So all summer I was preparing for the concert and listening to all of their songs. This has left me to listen to them a lot recently and reminisce on the amazing concert.
2. An example of music that deeply impacted me
An artist that has been really meaningful to me is Claire. She expresses herself freely and doesn't care what other people have to say about it. I also love all the topics she sings about in her songs. I've been listening to her since early high school and she's always been my go to.
This is a song from her newest album. This one is probably my favorite one from the album.
3. An example of music that I don't really connect with.
Even though rock music is my go to genre I don't really connect with rock bands from the 1970s. Bands like Queen, ABBA, Fleetwood Mac, and Led Zeppelin. I just can't seem to connect with the way they sing and the beats of the songs. But I do like punk rock music and I can see why someone would listen to them it's just not for me.
Their most popular song that people usually listen to but it's just not for me.

Hi Ashley, your blog is put together very well. I find it interesting that you don't enjoy 1900s rock music. I love listening to it on days I get tired of my regular playlist. However, I do enjoy the singer, Claire. Her songs are really easy for me to connect with.
ReplyDeleteHi Ashley, I think number 3 was what I found most interesting because its also music that I don't really connect with either, I think this type of music you either love it or not at all. I liked number 2 the most because after listening to the song you inserted, I understand why you would like it, its very calming to listen to and I enjoyed listening to it for that reason
ReplyDeleteI've only heard blink-182 through the radio and games I play, it's nice too hear more of their discography! I grew up with all kinds of rock music! I'm surprised you don't like older rock bands! Like I said earlier, I grew up with just about every genre of rock and the classic 60-70's rock is the genre I probably like the most. Also, Clairo has such a beautiful voice! I think I've only listened to a few of her songs when she was a little bit more popular, like Sofia, Pretty Girl, and Amoeba. Juna is a very good song that I'll definitely be listening to more!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard blink-182 until I listened to that song! I actually really enjoyed listening to something new! I love that you also included Clairo, she is so amazing and her music has always been super calming.
ReplyDeleteHey Ashley, I liked that you added a song i've never heard before (blink-182). Clairo is also is also a calm song but kinda sounds like elevator music. Not in a bad way though. I do disagree with your views on 70s rock. I don't think its bad but I also might not be as well versed as i should be to have a real opinion or view on the specific years.
ReplyDeleteHi Ashley! I have never heard of Blink-182. However, I found it interesting and relatable that after to going to one of their concerts, you listen to them a lot to reminisce your good memories at the concert. I personally like the rock bands from the 70s but can see why others cannot really connect to it. Personally, ABBA is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteHi Ashley! I love Clairo and her Juna is one of my favorite songs on the album as well! I listened to the Blink-182 song and added it to my liked songs immediately, punk music is kind of my guilty pleasure. I was a bit surprised you didn't like bands like Queen and ABBA as they have really good music, although I do understand why you don't like them.
